Power BI – Supported Data Sources

Power BI allows you to connect with 100+ data sources. These sources have been categorized into different categories which are the following.

1. All
2. File
3. Database
4. Azure
5. Online Services
6. Other

All:

When you click on Get data on Power Bi desktop you will find this option which consists of all available data sources. Please find a screenshot for better understanding.

File:

In this category, only file-related data sources would be available. Ex: Excel, Text, CSV, JSON, Folder, etc..

Database:

In this category, the only the database server would be available. Ex: SQL Server, Analysis Service, IBM Db2, Oracle.

Azure:

Azure Database would be available in this category. Example: Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL data warehouse, etc…

Online services:

In this category, all online service-related data sources would be available. Ex: Google Analytics, Face book, SharePoint online list.

Other:

Apart from the entire above category data source, all come under another category. Ex: Web, Microsoft Exchange.
